Hi all - new to landscape gardening; did some extensive work to our front beds last fall and have been battling a few issues here and there as we come into summer (and a cold, rainy spring) in Raleigh, NC. Most of them I've been able to diagnose and combat on my own through Google, but this one is confounding me.

My Oakleaf Hydrangea (Ruby Slippers) is exhibiting some purpling at the edges of some leaves, with some of the leaves curling/crisping up. It also seems that some of the blooms are browning too soon, although it's my first year with this shrub so I'm not sure how long blooms are supposed to last. We've had some hot days here lately, but nothing TOO out of the ordinary for a Carolina summer, and I read that these guys are supposed to be pretty hardy. It's sited in pretty much full sun all day, in well-draining soil that I amended with 50/50 blend prior to planting. The area in which it's planted may be a little acidic, as the strip between my house and the neighbor's house was full of pine trees I believe (judging by the stumps left over from the contractor and the general look/feel of the soil while I was tilling). We've also had a CRAZY amount of rain over the past month or two - some weeks 3-4".

Anyway, just looking for some general guidance right now as to what it might be and how to combat. I realize a soil test should probably be done, but in the meantime thought I'd come ask ya'll for some help!
