Mattress height relative to nightstand

Just got 2 nightstands that are 32" tall.
Mattress is 13" tall and bed slats are 5" off the floor. I'm trying to decide between a 5 inch foundation vs a 9 inch foundation. The 5 inch foundation would not be visible and the 9 inch would be stick out and probably not look so good, but it would place the mattress height better relative to the night stand.

5 inch foundation: wound not br visible and mattress top would be 23 inches off ground.

9 inch foundation: mattress top would be 27 inches off ground but 4 inches of foundation will poke out...

not sure which to go with considering how tall the nightstand are.

Depends on your bed frame. If you have standard 7" side rails on your bed (not all beds are like this, but many are) then the 5" foundation is a knuckle-buster every time you go to change the sheets. because it makes the bottom of the mattress sit below the side rail. Always get a foundation or box spring that sits up 1" + above the side rails, you fingers will thank you later.

28" bed height is good for most people. I'd not worry too much about the nightstand height, be sure to use shorter lamps, however.
