Do adjustable bed frames need special furniture?

I had an DreamCloud adjustable bed frame installed on top of existing bed furniture that has a wood support to support a mattress without a box spring.
It fits and the frame works, but now the mattress is way too high off the floor.

It may be that high since it’s made to be a normal height without stacking a mattress and box spring together.

The adjustable bed frame came with legs that can be installed on it so you can use it standalone, but I assume that would look very unfinished.

What should I look for in bed furniture that will better accommodate the adjustable mattress frame?
