Need kitchen help

Need help on my kitchen. This is how it looks today, with the addition of basic black appliances.

I'm thinking of painting the walls "RICE GRAIN" by Sherwin Williams and the kitchen cabinets, "THUNDER GRAY" but beyond that have no idea. This is an open-layout which I hate.

I want the kitchen to appear tall (so take advantage of vertical height (with a low budget in mind. I do not mind DIY projects). And I want it to "appear" spacious, especially with all the natural light.

Lastly, I don't know what type of "pantry" door to get.

The living room, nook, and kitchen are all open and joined so it looks like ONE BIG STUDIO apartment instead of a "house". Any ideas would be appreciated.

MOST of my large Windows line the rooms in the back of the house FACING the backyard, with 4 in the kitchen NOOK and 3 in the Living room. I believe my windows face WEST on this side of the house.

Save more money

Knock out the corner pantry completely......

Don't do anything until you let that "go"

Measure the kitchen wall to wall, add a drawing in the comments. But I'd not touch the kitchen until a fuller remodel. Start the piggy bank.

If it has basically remained like this since 2009, how much have you saved up to do this?

First thing to decide is what must stay.

Then you have to blend what must stay with the new aesthetic. Since this is an open concept space we need to see the entire space and know what you are willing to update to provide good suggestions on what else you can do.

Can you afford to change flooring, counters, backsplash?

Can you get more pics of the entire space?

Can you draw out a floor plan of the space with measurements?

How long do you anticipate being in this house?

Do you have any inspiration pictures that show what you would love to have?

What are your favorite colors? Can we bring some color into the space?

I am not sure that your color selections are going to be an improvement or how the Thunder Gray relates to any of the other colors in the space. Still have beige floors, back splash and counters and will still have beige walls.

There are many ways to add color and update that don't have to break the bank. Flooring is probably going to be your biggest obstacle.

Back splash is a small space and can be updated DIY, Counter looks like formica and that can be covered with formica sheets DIY with very little expense, new won't break the bank. You could possibly extend the counter over the sink make it a true breakfast bar.

Changing out the lighting can also really improve the look and feel of the space.

I would add pendants over the breakfast bar.

In my mind - small budget means not changing the footprint and not changing the cabinets. Flooring may or may not be out of scope depending on how much of the space is the same flooring.

IMO you may want your gray paint to be considerably lighter than the black appliances, so maybe a color like this would work.
