I'm not a decorator, but if you go to overstock.com, they have lots of quilts to choose from. My dog lives on my bed, and I got a cotton quilt there which he has not managed to damage. Durable and easy to wash. That's what I would recommend, cotton, not the puffy down-filled kind (comforter?).

I'd pull navy and/or red from the rug... and completely avoid white/ivory, just because I'd find it difficult to keep looking nice with the pups. :-)

My two cents, if you get a solid blue bed cover, i think the whole room is going to be overwhelmingly blue. you need a print with some cream color, cotton.

I addressed the quilt/coverlet only.... Probably should have mentioned that I envisioned doing *just* the denim quilt, and then mixing up the shams (Euro, standard) and accent pillows (in yellow and/or orange) to bring in a gingham/check/plaid/madras, floral, or Swiss dot, etc., pattern, or maybe even a knife-edge pillow made from a cute eyelet lace. :-D

You need a picture on the wall to the right of the bed. I like the headboard, it reminds me a little of the louvered shutters you might see in a resort cabaña. You could go a bit tropical in there. But I know you mentioned you like cottage style. Maybe you should choose a picture first, you can put something with size there, and then choose the bed cover. Don’t overthink this. Just get things you like.
