All the pros here will ask you for a scale drawing so they can give you the best advice. I always use graph paper to measure out all my rooms and I keep those in a notebook which I can take with me when I shop. After you post your scale drawing so the pros can give you ideas and solutions, take the bar stools away and put regular chairs with the back to the breakfast bar. Pull your table up to them and see if you like the configuration in your space. This mock-up will help you visualize your ideas. Maybe you will need a new table or maybe you will decide the proposed banquette needs to be deeper front to back or shorter front to back. Don’t forget to allow for storage under the seats, either with drawers underneath or a hinged lid under your new cushions. I loved the hidden storage under my window seats as a great place to put Christmas presents secret!

There is a free app called Magicplan. It lets you scan your room with your smartphone or iPad and creates a floor plan for you (measurements should be double-checked with a measuring tape). The app allows you to add scaled furniture, like tables, banquettes, chairs... It takes a bit of time but is is incredibly helpful when trying to figure out a layout.

A mystery without a floor plan but IMO banquette seating is the last choice for me. It barely works on a picnic table or in a restaurant.

I drew out my kitchen on graph paper and I do have room for a banquette. My husband built one in the basement so he’ll design and build it.
