Too close to the new air conditioner?

This Elegans has been happy in this spot for about 7 years.We had a new air conditioner installed while I was out. We did not expect it would have a larger footprint and require a larger pad. My husband moved the row of smaller Autumn Joy Sedums that ran in front of the old one.But he must have thought the hosta was ok as it was.Do you think I need to move it further away? Or leave well enough alone?I have 5 or 6 Elegans, and this one is the largest. The rest (all bought as quarts) are in much more shade and are not nearly as big. Thanks.

Thank you all. I'm going to call the utilities and have the underground cables marked, then move it.

id move it.. for no other reason that it is interfering with air movement around the a/c ... and it isnt going to get any smaller ...

i would probably do it with a hand trowel.. with all those utilities around.. unless you are positive there is no buried electric ...

I would move it. It isn't aesthetically pleasing any more and, as Ken noted, it will interfere with circulation.

I have a couple of hostas beside our air conditioner, not in front and not quite as close. There is a lot of warm air circulated around the air conditioner when it is being used. The hosta leaves could get dry. If the hosta grows bigger, the leaves will be squashed up against it. I say it should be moved too.

Use one of these when you dig it up.

A garden spading fork won't break the hosta's roots, and it may avoid the cables as well.

I would also recommend moving it for reasons already mentioned. I know it’s a big job so good luck! You are making the right by calling the utility company.
