Did you mean Annabelle hydrangeas? Because they really don't need fertilizer; they're intent on world domination as it is ( they sucker like crazy)

Established Annabelle-like hydrangeas can feed off the decomposing mulch. Just maintain 2-4" of organic mulch (no rocks) throughout the whole year. Hydrangeas are not hungry plants like roses so: I would fertilize newly planted ones until they become established; I would not fertilize them in Year 1 if they already have those round fertilizer pellets used by plant nurseries.

I use Espoma Plant-tone for daylilies. I fertilize once when I see them emerge and then again after bloom.

For hydrangeas, I use Espoma Rose-tone. Or you can also use Holly-tone.
