I can't find a picture of it, but when I had a kitchen sink against a wall, I put a mirror over it. Worked great for making eye contact with the person behind you when you are at the sink, and makes the room feel more open generally.

@jslazart, how high up was the bottom of the sink? I found a few photos of mirrors above sinks, but don't think I want to look at myself as I wash vegetables.

I never give it a second thought... when I’m washing dishes, I’m looking into the sink - at the dishes.

Usually you look at the vegetables when washing vegetables. Seriously though, my mom told me to do it (it was my first house), and I thought it was a silly idea, but once I put the mirror up, I loved it.

Not sure I understand the question about how high the bottom of the sink was. It was a tiny 50s house, and the setup was pretty much like this, except a mirror in place of the window:

@emilyam819, thanks! Looks like you have about 4-6" more space under the above-sink cabinets than the others?

@jslazart, thanks for the photo. What I meant was, did the mirror bottom align with the countertop, or the bottoms of the cabinets, or what.

It's a fair point that I probably wouldn't be looking at the mirror much while prepping.

I don't mind my sink against the wall, either, but there is a window on the perpendicular wall. We used a sconce and a tile pattern. This is an 8' ceiling and the cabinets are 15" so I think they're about 40" above the sink. The light from the sconce is great. I highly recommend some light source for your sink.

I don’t have a pic, but I I am similar to the others here who have a sink facing a wall and don’t give it any thought. I have a big window in my kitchen, but chose to put a 42” round table in front of it to eat at. I’d rather use my window to gaze out while sipping coffee or eating dessert, etc. than to try to gaze out while using the sink. When you are using a sink, you are looking down 95% of the time. I do have good lighting at the sink.

There is 33" of headroom above the sink. I didn't want to change the layout when remodeling - so the new window was placed next to the stove. I have a big window where my kitchen table resides.

@Isaac and others, I would love to see more pictures of sinks facing walls, especially standard size sinks. Someone just suggested to me that I put a standard size sink and dishwasher off to the side in my kitchen, instead of in my island (to have more prep space and storage in the island) and I'm kind of liking the idea. I will post a picture below. I would also love any thoughts in regard to this idea. There would still be a sink in the island, but the main dish washing sink would be off to the side with the dishwasher.

Haven’t moved in, but this layout works for us. I don’t spend much time in the sink anyway.
