I built an arbor about 7 yrs ago and it needs to be refinished. Originally I stained then put a marine varnish as last coat. It looked really good but now that it’s time to refinish it’s a nightmare to remove the varnish.

I ended up disassembly the entire structure , stripped and sanded. Can some recommend a good finish that holds up and not so labor intensive as marine varnish?
