Hi Ken, thanks for responding. I'm in zone 9 in NORCAL, tree is in the ground, planted last summer, about 6' tall, soil was removed and amended, did well until this heat wave.

And the soil is wet according to my moisture meter.

It might just be the heat. The tree hasn't been in the ground that long and while they are very tolerant of a wide range of conditions, they always look great in SF and it is almost never hot there. Don't overwater it; it is reasonably drought-tolerant. I'd just be patient. You could put an umbrella over it during periods of intense heat. Which are happening more frequently. :-(

Might need MORE water. Could use a shot of acid fertilizer or iron. I've seen these in town at 25' and as wide with very dark foliage. Once they get going..that's what you will have. I like them as potted plants too in look..the droopy leaflets and blue green color stand out.

Yeah it might...but they have low water needs. And that is not chlorosis; that it burn. So I still think that it was the heat with a less-than-mature root system.

Low water once established...but this one isnt and it burned because its not getting enough water.
