BUT if you love the neighborhood that's a good reason to be there.

Production homes are built to less expensive levels of finish and are easier homes to build. If you emulate their homes, your build numbers will be closer as long as you don't pay custom lot prices for their lot, but usually somebody will.

Is it worthwhile? $200K depends on your location. $200K in Nebraska is huge, but not so much in the CA Bay area where production homes are often $2-3 mil.

Yes, we do understand why they are selling. It a sloped lot and they are not equipped to build in the same price range as other homes. We are perfectly ok with the lot as we gotten several contractors to look at it and they have given us various options to level out the lot, adding a basement being one of them. We live in Dallas and love the idea of having a basement. Thank you for your input!
