Check soil moisture

I’ve been watering it everyday.

You should be watering weekly and deeply. And remove grass around the tree and mulch up to about 2 inches from the trunk. And when was this planted and can you see the root flare?

Check soil moisture = carefully digging around where its roots are at this time and looking to see what the moisture level of the soil is. Instead of assuming you know what the situation is, based only on what you have been doing. Because you may be in for a surprise.

Do you think the tree isn’t getting enough water?

Wilting like that is generally a sign of some sort of water issue. Could be too little or too much - both will produce a similar appearance. Only way to know which is to manually check the soil moisture at root depth.

Watering daily could be a sign it is getting too much........rarely does any plant in the ground require daily watering.

I am so confused about this tree. I’ll quit watering daily and go check the soil moisture. It’s in the yard so it gets water from the sprinklers. It has a bunch of brown spots on the leaves. But overall just looking terrible.

Sprinklers are a very poor water delivery system for woody plants. OK for a lawn but not so OK for anything else. Assuming this is an automated sprinkler system that comes on daily for a short burst of time, the tree may not be getting enough. As laceyvail suggested, weekly deep, slow watering is preferred.

It is automated. I’ll check soil and then I’ll try watering once a week. I just hope it recovers it looks really bad. How long would you suggest watering once a week? 5 minutes or more/less?

You can't just do it by an arbitrary period of time. Too many variables will influence what that should be. For new trees, I just place the hose on at a slow trickle at the base of the tree and leave it until I think (or test) that the water has penetrated down deep enough and fully hydrated the rootball and surrounding soil.

Ok I’ll do that. It’s been so hot here in Texas! thank you for your help. I’d been watering it thinking it would just bounce back but it just keeps losing leaves. But I’ll try your suggestions 😁
