Has anything (like fertilizer) been splashed on these leaves? Any renovations to the home that required some kind of chemicals?

I've had hosta leaves go ballistic like that when I carelessly splashed them with a systemic (fungicide and insecticide combined) as I was trying to get it onto the roots with a watering can.

Hi everyone, my local cooperative extension (Cornell) identified the disease as anthracnose. I was advised to cut off and destroy the affected leaves and apply a copper-based fungicide to the plant and its neighboring hostas. Thanks for your suggestions.

I would like to share that all hosta are not susceptible to anthracnose. Of all the hosta I have or have had, only Blue Angel was susceptible. I sent a sample to Texas A&M for diagnosis.

Lisa, oh my goodness. Did you send them the leaf?

Looking at images on the web and reading the description of anthracnose---large irregular spots with dark borders---I don't see that in the picture. I also would like to know if a leaf or two was sent in for the diagnosis.

To send hosta to A & M's plant disease diagnostic center, you have to send the leaf, petiole and root. It has to go overnight mail on the first of the week.
