We used a different version of that Suprema Gloss tile (ours was 3" x 6" in Ice Blue), and it is beautiful.

Long skinny tiles are getting out of date, or already are out of date. That is probably why you are having problems finding that size. Have you thought about a different size or design?

We haven’t considered many other designs, I know I want it to be predominantly white, we have enough other color in the kitchen, and I like the longer herringbone a lot. We’ve seen a herringbone with a 3x6 and I didn’t particularly like that. This is a not so great picture of the kitchen as it is today

That is a pretty kitchen. Love the floors. Just MHO, but I would not do a herringbone backsplash pattern with those windows. It would be too much.

Yea... we want to replace the windows but it wasn’t in the budget this year. 100 year old house god knows how old those are

Go to the better tile showrooms in your area; they will have them.

Have a look at Tilebar - they have several selections for white 2 X 8. You can order samples 5 for $5. Tilebar subway style.

I think you'll be able to find something that works.

Try Aluse Edwards "tongue in Chic @ 2.5 x 10.5 inches. Make a lovely herringbone install. Color "you don't snow me" is a nice clean white, with a hand cut look.

You might want the grids out of the windows : ) Maybe re glass..... doubtful those are 100 years old.

Prefacing this with ive never done this before but wouldn’t a 2.5x10.5 leave you with larger grout lines in a herringbone (1/6 inch?) given 4 tiles on their short side would effectively line up to one on its long side? That seems like a lot of grout?

I’m assuming there’s something wrong with my logic though... since if you did the same math for 2x8 you end up with zero grout

If you’ve done the math and you’ve determined that 2” x 8” tile is what you need, buy that.

Fireclay Tile has five different whites (White Wash, Daisy, Frost, Tusk, and Calcite), so one of them will work. Match the white of your cabinets, over that of your counter background. In a 2” x 8” tile it will cost $28/sf.

They also have Glazed Thin Brick that measures 2.5” x 8” with three different white glazes, and this goes for $18/sf. The contrast between the rugged texture of the brick and the refined smoothness of everything else in your space could be very pretty.

Daltile has 2 x 8, I looked everywhere because I was looking for a gloss white and a gloss orange. Yes they have them at mod tiles, but I found exactly what I wanted at Dal Tile and at 1/10th of the price. (approx 3.80 per sq ft vs $38 sq foot-and I didn't meet the min order for Mod tiles)

Fireclay Tile. They have exactly what you are looking for and really great customer service. My experience with them was 5/5 stars. I did a 2x6 white in herringbone pattern with a light gray grout. They have 2x8 as well as many other shapes.

As Ivy said, Fireclay Tile is awesome. I ordered some of their handprinted tiles for my kitchen backsplash and the service was excellent. That said, if I had used a plain white 2x8 tile, I would have had a harder time justifying buying their tile over a less expensive alternative. The tiles I got were a total splurge, and I was willing to do it because they're completely unique - I'm considering it an art purchase!

To the OP - read the thread I am linking about a herringbone pattern backsplash installation. It went wrong, and if you are doing this DIY, you should look at the various advice in the thread. Even if you are hiring someone, as the OP of that thread did, make sure he has prior experience in a herringbone pattern. You can see what happens unless you really know what you are doing.

Make sure in particular you read the OP’s (Kristine) post at the end about lessons learned.

Hang on a second - @Joe never said anything about DIYing the backsplash. It doesn’t look like a DIY space. I think he just means he hasn’t chosen a bs before.
