Great video! Love the pace. You took your time so we could get a good look. On my laptop at the highest setting, the volume was low, so I missed most of your narrative. Darn! You've done a LOT of work to put that together and it's so nice to be rewarded after doing all that. When you think of the time it took, to plan it and lay it out and add the hardscape. And keeping the bugs and the varmints from eating everything...lol! Great job! Beautiful and so colorful!

Thank you for a wonderful tour of your garden. I liked that broad leaved allium. Love that you have a lot of hummingbirds. I plant scarlet runner beans on a trellis near our kitchen window where we have our table so we can see them sometimes while we eat. The obelisks are wonderful. You chose a great color.

So sumptous! Heaven on earth! I so miss all the phlox I used to have - for some reason I can't get it to live here any more.

Hi Everyone, so glad you enjoyed the video. I've been trying to video the gardens more in general. I'm looking forward to watching them in the winter to remind myself "this needs to move here", "that needs another one of these there...", "this needs to be ripped out", etc..... I have never made notes about my garden as a season progresses so videos will be my notebook.

Marie, in the picture in the post, that's the princess on the farmers porch. She's just finished up blooming. Still putting out a handful of blooms here or there. Just keeps getting bigger each year. A really great clematis indeed.

Thyme, marvelous video! Your gardens are spectacular. As far as the Vitex goes, yes, do cut it back. I have two that have grown into 15-20 foot trees. Sometimes, I wish I had kept them as shrubs. They are lovely either way though. Heading back now to watch more of your videos! Thanks.

Molie, Glad you enjoyed the pace of the video. I just wanted it to be a stroll through the garden taking a peek at most of the garden, but with less narrative about what exactly is planted in there. I have it planted for seasonal interest. There's usually always something going on except maybe in early July before the phlox and daylilies take over. Looking forward to the fall blooming plants to keep the insects happy well into the fall.

Regarding the phlox, back in the day I had gone to Perennial Pleasures in VT and picked up a handful of heirloom phlox. I can't even say which ones they were at this point it was so long ago. And then over a couple years I picked up the usual suspects 'Laura', 'Bright Eyes', 'Starfire', 'Nikki', 'David' (holy mildew on this one though!), etc...the ones that are usually readily available at Bluestone (who i used to order through all the time when they were 3-packs for short $$), or local nurseries. There are probably still a handful of original plants, but they have really started seeding in over the last few years and i get all sorts of pretty variety. Once in a while I find one in a nursery that catches my eye and I buy it and plunk it in. I just went around last evening for fun and took video of most of the individual flowers close-up. Some of them are just so pretty. I am a big fan as well of the white with contrasting eyes.

Cyn, I know what you mean about the vitex. I was just so tickled that it's even living. Nan Ondra was kind enough to send me a seedling when I noticed her tree in a blog post she did a couple years back. It was kind of a test in my Z5 garden. But it is getting there. I think i'm going to see how it does for a couple years, and from what I've seen from the way my brother in law whacks it down, I think I may be able to get away with allowing it to get a little bigger, but knowing it might have to be taken back at some point. It's coming into bloom right now and I'm so excited about it! Anything I can plant for those honeybees and bumblers makes me happy! Thanks for the nice comment on the garden.

Finally had a few minutes to watch--I've been looking forward to it for a week now! Honestly, one of the best things is your relaxing voice. Such a beautiful scene, and for me your voice adds immense calmness and relaxation to the whole atmosphere. Isn't that funny?

You were right about Buttered Popcorn. It is a perfect punch of yellow in that magenta. Just a feast for the eyes following the whole path down. So cool and inviting! I love how comfortable you are with letting seedlings have a shot. Your garden has that beautiful natural feel.

Plantorama podcast had mentioned cuphea for hummingbirds earlier this year and I thought I might try it. Now it's a definite on next year's list.

I've looked longingly at Perennial Pleasures, but since it's a 4+ hr drive one-way from here, I guess I'll have to order online. Hate to do that, though, because I love to see them ... smell them ... etc., up close. I'm really looking for heirloom phlox and PP is about it for New England.

Deana, I've been ordering seeds from Nan for years. She has some really interesting varieties! I can't say enough about Cuphea for the hummingbirds. They are on it all the time. I have about 24 planted all around the house for them. No matter where we are sitting, we always get to enjoy hummingbirds!

Molie, that is 'Tuff Stuff' hydrangea. I love this with 'Bobo' and 'Buttered Popcorn'. It has turned out to be so much more than I had hoped. The color is so striking, especially in the evening light.

Thyme - Is Cuphea perennial there for you or do you start seeds every year?

I'm warmer than you and I had to do the same thing. I was just responding to Thyme saying she had 24 Cuphea plants. Unless she is buying six packs in the spring? I could only find a gallon size at our local nursery and that limits the number I'm going to grow.

PM2, I have a local nursery that sells the larger six packs of cuphea. They sell out pretty quickly because it doesn't seem to be a readily available annual around here. I buy them early and protect them on my farmers porch until ready for planting. Let me know and I can pick some up for you.....you too, Barb. Even if you only want one or two, I can split up a six pack. Or why don't we just day I'll get an extra six pack next year and give you both some? I already buy 4-5 six packs every year of this. What one more?! LoL!

Susan, next year tell me when you're going and I'll meet you there. There's a huge farmstand here that sells six packs but only in herbs.

I had a feeling that is what you were doing Thyme. It's really a shame more nurseries don't stock that in 6 packs. I never see them here. The nursery where I bought mine last year, sold a gallon for $19.99 and I bought 2 of them on sale for $15. each for containers. Not something I'd buy 24 of. [g].

I think what I should do, is call around to all the nurseries and ask them to offer them next spring. It's worth a shot. And absolutely would love a six pack of Cuphea and would love it even better if this Covid19 virus would stop being a factor and we could just plan to make a day of it. [g]. I didn't even go to the Three Sisters sale this year. I think one of the gardeners had plants available and was taking orders and giving curbside pick up but I didn't do that either.

Do you ever grow the less hardy varieties of Agastache and Salvias for the Hummingbirds? Do you have clay soil there? Acid?

Also ... regarding Cuphea ... has anyone tried to grow it from seed?
