Some initial thoughts on rug, coffee table, floor lamp and throw pillow... I need more pillows and not sure if Im going in the right direction

They are looking for new wall color and rug... and I'm trying to help.

The cream colored walls looks yellow in person, not sure if that's working with the honey oak floors. Not going for grey everything either just trying to balance out the wood and dark colors in the room.

I am finding it difficult to get a feel for the space. The yellow cast comes from the floor and the lighting. Changing all the bulbs to LEDs in 4000K will mimic sunlight and keep colors true. IMO gray for walls is not a good choice with what they have. I would do a nice soft gray/green for the walls and get new drapes in that same hue , maybe the drapes could be a gift.I love blue accents with dark furniture , robins egg blue is really nice .Gray Wisp from BM is a nice wall color it is the color in the bedroom pic.

They can change bulbs to daylight bulbs and then see if they still want to change the paint. I think the current color is ok. If they want to change, a warm white for the walls. Nothing with grey. BM’s Ballet White is a nice, versatile color. BM’s Swiss Coffee is another one they can sample. I recommend BM’s Natura Line.

This rug is just one idea. I will look for some other possibilities. If they decide to order any rugs online - a good idea is to order a sample - or if they can’t get a sample, they can buy the smallest size, so if they don’t like the rug, and/or the rug doesn’t work in the actual space, they don’t have to send back a huge rug.

I’m not able to do a visual in room on this one, but I think it may be a possibility.

Thanks Patricia, what other color would you recommend for the walls? Green is a no for them... would an off white work? If so, cool tone or warm creamy tone? Thanks!

There is nothing wrong with their floors. There is nothing wrong with yellow and gold. If you do not understand and/or like the wood and colors, you really cannot help them.

They would absolutely need a warm white for the walls. Not a cool white. They have a house full of warm wood. And I gave you some warm white paint options in my comment above.

It also looks like a house full of children in these pictures, and the best coffee table to have with children is an ottoman style. It is also on trend and has been for a while, and it is a style that would work in their space.

With what I can see of the sectional shape and style, I think maybe a large square shape for ottoman.

And as far as pillows, as one option, velvet works well with leather.

Did you show your idea board to you in-laws to get their response? Truthfully, it looks to me very similar to the up-date you are doing right now in your house and you say you have different taste. Is there any reason you can't wait till the floors are done and then post photos of the whole space rather than bits and pieces?
