Our client ordered the vanities for this bathroom direct (not through us) from Restoration Hardware. Here's the lesson we learned: don't get vanities from Restoration Hardware. Within about a year, the finish was wearing off, and in a few places, the veneer was even starting to chip off. We fixed the veneer and had a painter re-coat the vanities with a better sealer, so they are fine now. That being said, it would have been better, easier, and in the same price range to go with full custom. To make a long story short, I don't what kind of wood they are since the client bought them directly, but you will get that same kind of look from clear alder or cherry (alder being the less expensive option). Here are a couple of vanities we did with cherry and alder:

No, alder on the left, cherry on the right. You could get alder that color though. The main difference between cherry and alder is going to be the richness of the grain patterns. Alder looks a little plainer, cherry looks a little richer, both are very nice. If you did a natural or lighter stain, you might also be able to see slight color differences as well (unstained cherry has a little more reddish color to it....but that varies piece to piece).

would Select Alder be better for a dark stain than maple? We are considering a dark stain. Thank you for all your advice
