What's going on in my GLAM laundry room? Cow poop. That's what's going on. The Dingo climbed the fence last night and escaped. Was gone for hours. When my husband let him in, he ran straight for our bed. It was then that we saw he was wet from his head to his curly tail with dew and COW POOP! It's one of his favorite past times...rolling in fresh cow poop! White cow pooped stained sheets and quilt are freshly laundered. DINGO FOR SALE!

enduring, that is an impressive setup you have. But, I must lead a very sheltered life LOL I don't know anyone with multiple sets of washers and dryers. Do you have a large family? Run a B&B? And I don't understand the wash water draining system you have going on. Is it because your machines are below ground level?

enduring, you always keep busy. I like that! Our builder left various boxes of tile in the attic, which we have put to good use. We have a box or two of white subway tiles left, so now my partner wants to have a back splash put in the LR. I sort of think that is overkill, but we are going back and forth with it. We could do it ourselves as we did back splashes ourselves in previous homes, but I am just not into it right now.

Monica, let me send you my sympathies over your bedding issues, Poor Dingo! I love your glam laundry room. Did you take any pictures of the latest activities going on in there, LOL?

Let me explain the laundry set up. I got the first set of Mieles in 2016, to use for DH farm clothes, and utilize the laundry setup that was in existence in the basement. My main Miele set is upstairs in the bathroom I remodeled in 2013. The basement setup needed updating, so new 240v outlets and a new water intake and drain setup was installed. Over the next year I thought it would be a good idea to find another old used washer for parts. So I found one, and instead fixed it up for use, so then I found a dryer to go with it. Then I had 2. Last year, I started looking at the option fo 3 sets, and found a used set, though newer models. I brought that 3rd set home, and used it, but never got a 3rd electrical setup installed, as I thought it was sort of crazy. So I traded the plugs around to get the combo I wanted. I wanted to see about using all washers together so came up with just using a large plastic tote for the newer 3rd set, and that is when I saw that there was a lot of gravely material coming out of the discharge water, so I stopped using the other drain systems I had. I would collect the water and dump it slowly down the floor drain to allow the sediment to settle and poor the rest out in our gravel drive.

Then a few months later the 3rd washer started making loud spinning noises and I didn't now if there was debris that was loosing up from the inside of the machine drum from use, or if the spider was failing. Well it has since stopped making the noise and seems to spin fine, also the sediment is a lot less. So then instead of having more plumbing installed, because I don't know the life of this machine, I fixed up a bucket with a spout that hooks to a high temp garden hose and I let it drain from the bucket to the floor drain, by gravity. I have the bucket on another bucket to get height to help with the drainage. That is the bucket picture I posted. The 1st machine is still discharging in the official washer drain system, the 2nd washer now has a new drainage setup, using my newly installed laundry sink, and this 3rd washer is draining to the floor drain.

What do you think of this? I always keep the main water intake level off (not shown in this pic) unless I've got the washers running.

I like the Backsplash idea Armjim! You could post some laundry pictures here if you'd like, thats what I was hoping people would do with this thread. Its meant to be a community thread. My laundry room is not pretty, but I still find it worth posting as it is of interest for others possibly. Currently I have the electrician putting in a GIFC (?) outlet near my new laundry sink. can't wait to get the shop light installed to add to the functionality of the dark corner space.

Oh enduring! You always amazing me! I'm not nearly as adventurous as you in things like this. I've long admired how you can do these projects.

I've posted a photo of my laundry set up here before a while back. I suppose it's in some long ago thread. Who knows when/if that will show up again. Here's a photo I took just now. And we can all have a moment of silence in mourning the end of production of my Speed Queen washing machine, the 432.

My set up is utilitarian as well. It used to be nicer/stylish, but I had to reconfigure the space to get side by sides in there. Cost overruns...you know how that goes, but it turned out great as far as I am concerned and the vast shelf (which does wrap around on the side walls--not pictured) ended up being my favorite part of the reconfigurations. I have room for all my laundry potions in their bins and the back-up stock gets stored in various areas of the house, such as a linen closet and our clean towel closet in the master bath, which is where this w/d lives. One of these days, I'd like to have extra shelves put up in the wasted space above the shelf to store my powder detergent stock and get some space back from my linen closet -- always planning for the end of the powder detergent days :)

Ok I ran and took these two pictures. Rog wants to put the backsplash over the counter. I don't know if we have enough tiles to wrap around either side. Like I said earlier, I am sort of indifferent to it. He also wants to put n a light fixture which would make Monica proud, but the accountant in me keeps saying "no."

Beautiful laundry room armjim! Swoon :) I would hesitate to make any changes to your nice arrangement there, but I tend to avoid changing what is already nice. Good to see you. Hope all is well.

I have a washer & dryer set in my laundry room. I have usually three but currently two more washers in my master bathroom connected to the tub faucet with a manifold tap like Enduring's (control the temp manually via the faucet).

Sea Sea glad your redone layout was an improvement for your shelving. You are a dear to say kind things about my spaces. I tell people there is a lot of entertainment value in these projects. Your laundry is bright and organized.

Armjim, you have a very pretty window there. I love the pride too. Good space for laundry work too.

Dadoes, I think you are the one that provided a lot of help with my manifold. I love it that you have all those machines. you’re always so helpful to others with their machines.

It's small, er, cozy and eye popping glam :) How can you go wrong with a chandy and glitter walls in a laundry room? The new w/d deserved better and it's a pleasure to do laundry. Light fixture is on a dimmer so we keep it on all the time. Serves as ambiance at night :D Lighting is everything and I love the way the crystals are blown around by the AC, casting dancing shadows on the glittery walls :)

Armjim, what kind of light fixture is he wanting to install? I like the idea of tiled walls and maybe snazz it up with a beautiful listello :) Also, is that a Oceana glass bowl next to the sink?

Yeah, when I read that earlier today (yesterday), it was Greek LOL Now that I'm in my prime time and re-read it, it makes sense :) So you have a set for your husband's farm clothes (good idea) and two sets for everything else. Is it just the two of you? What is the drum size of the Miele washers? It's hard to wrap my head around three sets (nor would I have the space...no basement) My obsession is IOTs (AIs to be more specific). I have 33-35 smart devices :)

Monica, your room is lovely. I adore the etherial look of your lighting and sparkly walls. Great job! You have that many smart devices?!!! You must enjoy tech. I get it, it can be fun.

Monica, the drum sizes in the Miele models I have are not that big, I think just over 2cf. I can load 5 pair of size 36" blue jeans in there and they get clean. I'm sure a top loader or large front loader can hold more. I wash neatly all of my clothes in the upstairs W/D Miele, same small size. Its the first one I bought new in 2013. My loads are small so it works very well. DD moved back home after a divorce, then moved out for 2 months then back home due to corona virus last March. She washes her work clothes, as I do, on hot 140f. She works in a high risk population and needs to protect them, so she had to move home, as her cousin that she had moved in with, is an EMT. Some clothes of course get cooler temps.

DD works with primates in a research facility that researches ape cognition. SHE LOVES HER JOB. If she gets a cold she can't go into work. I work in a hospital as a nurse, with out patient population with depression and anxiety, etc. So we both like the hot water washing to help with potential corona virus contamination.

All the farm clothes get washed in 140f too. My white towels get washed in 195f, the ones my DH wipes his greasy grimy hands with. They are still very white, and intact, after 7 years!

I'm so glad you shared. I've wanted to see your 3 sets of washers & dryers for quite some time. Nothing going on in my laundry room today. Tomorrow, yes. Major bed washing day--mattress pad, the 2 sets of sheets, the 2 pillows, and bedspread. Washing four loads & drying 5. My laundry room is a pass through to the garage. Washer & dryer on one side and chest freezer and pantry on the other side.

Boba1 thanks for sharing. Your setup sounds very practical. It’s great having a deep freeze and having the freezer and pantry next to the garage would be a dream. I have to load up a box to get my freezer stuff down the basement. My system’s not bad but I’d love to have your setup. I don’t even have a garage anymore. It had to be taken down years ago and was never replaced. It was one of those old style with sliding double doors. Only one side open at a time. It fit 2 cars , and about a dozen nesting birds, lol.

I have been finding out that I really don’t need 3 dryers with my 3 washers, lol. I only have one vented anyway. I just dry a load at a time and the other wet laundry waits it’s turn. I have a dehumidifier running all summer in the basement to manage moisture so it is a rather dry environment and doesn’t get musty.

boba1, that's what we've been doing today (and cleaning house). From the mattress pad to the quilts. Last load is in the dryer. Now I'm too pooped to make the bed :/

enduring, so you have FOUR Miele sets? Three in the basement and one upstairs? My washer doesn't have a heater and altho the hot water heater is just inches from the washer, I still don't think I get 145 degree water. I thought I did but I think it must dispense all hot and then some cold mixed with it (even when set on HOT). I've never had a washer with a heater so I figured I could make it another 10 years without it. In your line of work (and your daughter's) it might be a necessity. But my drum size is 5 or 5.2cf...LOVE that! It's kind of an overkill but I'd rather it be too much than not enough. And I can make use of the extra size for extra water.

ps...my husband is wanting me to photograph our Dingo and using my Photoshop skills tint the image and background similar to the one of the dogs in the laundry room (Lolita, Bonita and Anita) and add flowers on HIS head.

pss..."ape cognition". That has stuck in my mind since I read it last night (or whenever I read it. My days and nights are running together lately). I wanted to think I probably have the cognitive skills of an ape but then quickly decided that was an insult to the ape!

Ok, here is the disasters in my laundry room/basement! But to be truthful this has happened before under different circumstances. Read below the pics. This is what I texted my sons in Washington state.

“All wet. I forgot to get my new setup for washer water into the new laundry sink. So all the wash water from the left washer overflowed the 5 gallon bucket, and put many gallons in the floor. This is after dad Anna and I squeezed the floor. We have 2 dehumidifiers and 2 fans working to dry this up!”

Wow enduring, sorry that happened to you. Thankfully in the basement. I miss having a basement. Basements are very common in Northern Virginia, not so here in Texas. Before we made the decision to move here, I had thought of putting the laundry in the basement. I never liked our LR that was located on the main floor. Our basement was unfinished and would have been the perfect place, as we had roughed in plumbing down there.
