Growing Tomatoes

Do my tomatoes need a shade cloth?

I live in central Indiana. I did all I could do to lessen the occurrence of leaf spot (cut lower branches, planted them further apart). But they've all gotten it, especially my Romas. Now that I've removed the worst of the branches, the Romas especially are exposed to a lot of sun. Should I put a shade cloth over them?

Sorry about your leaf spot problem. Sounds awful.

As far as the sun, I don't think you need a shade cloth. I live in the high desert where the summers are 90 - 100 and we don't cover tomatoes. We expose them to as much sun as possible but we do make sure they get plenty of water. Best of luck.

Roma tomatoes sound be fine. They're pretty tough.

I have heard that some of the softer tomatoes would need it.
