How much do you water?

Approx. once a week, depending on weather. Fast draining mix. Should I check the roots?

Tbh I think you should water more🙂. During the growing season these guys are pretty thirsty. I water mine twice a wk, but I could probably get away with watering them three times a week. Especially when it is real hot and dry. Mine get morning sun afternoon shade.

I keep mine dry in the winter and they start to look like yours when I hold back the water. Another reason why I suspect the yellow leaves are from lack of water. I see a couple crispy leaves at the base.

If your worried about rot, give it a little tug and if it feels well anchored I’m sure it’s fine. I really don’t feel like it’s rotting tho🙂.

Oh, thank you! I've never felt confidence about this plant‘s care. terra-cotta pots, small like this one, do dry out fast. I appreciate your help.

I agree with Kara. Mine have been doing much better this summer since I've been watering them more often. In hot sunny weather I've been watering a couple of times a week, more often for my smallest ones (in 3 or 4 inch terra cotta pots).

The plant "went south" quickly, coinciding with warmer weather, 89 and above. Gave it a good drink this morning.

Did it die? It’s been hot lately🔥.

Roots can cook when temps soar. Don't ask how I know this. Direct sun on a clay pot can turn potting mix into an oven. Cooked roots are not the goal. Keep roots cool, even wrapping pot/container in aluminum foil if you must. Plants can and do, shed leaves to reduce heat stress.

Also, longest day of the year: June 21st. Plants are winding down with the advent of shorter days.

Haven't we all! When I kill a plant, I just decide, "that one's not for me." And never buy it again. I moved the adenium to the back row so the pot itself is shaded and have been watering more. I don't see additional yellow leaves, so maybe everything is ok.

Lol, whenever I kill a plant, I tend to think "oh, got to buy another and try again." I must be a bit of a masochist.

Here's mine

I think mine is a bit older, as it has a bigger base. I think yours might benefit from a larger pot - with well-draining soil like you already have. Being in a bigger pot will not hurt it, as long as the soil drains well. The large pot will also allow for the base to get larger.
