Rhododendron - yellow stems

This Boursault Catawba was planted spring of 2019. It was a good sized plant. Bloomed nicely that year and was very healthy.

This spring I added a bit of soil acidifier and hollytone fertilizer. It did not flower, but has looked great all year. I have watered it lightly maybe twice a week through the hot summer. I am careful not to overwater (so I think) as my soil is clay and I know rhodies don't like wet feet. Last week I noticed some yellow leaves underneath which did not alarm me as I recall a few last year. I have also noticed a few odd yellow leaves on my other acid loving hydrangea and blue hollies, and it hasn't been a major issue.

What did alarm me is all of the yellow stems. Has anyone else seen this and what has your outcome been?

Today I added some more Espoma acidifer and a small amount of Miracle Gro for acid loving plants.
