OBF - AUGUST - BE WELL SWAP

last modified: 6 years ago

August is National Wellness Month This month focuses on self-care, creating healthy routines and stress management. We all lead such busy lives and rarely take time to pamper ourselves. Our days are filled with lots of activity -- taking care of our loved ones, managing the household, the garden, etc and it's easy to get stressed out. With everything going on in the world, being well and staying stress-free is more important that ever. So let's take some time to relax together. We will have Bingo and other games and it will be lots of fun.

Since all of us are spending more time at home these days, the online focus for this month's exchange will be discussion and recipes for in-home spa treatments, healthy eating and stress relief tips.

The exchange part will be simple. Just send your partner a greeting card and 2 packs of garden seeds for plants that can be used as ingredients in your home made spa treatments. Please include recipes or descriptions on how the plants may be used to give your partner some ideas. It doesn't have to be complicated. For instance, you may send cucumber seeds and mention that cucumber slices are used to reduce puffiness and refresh tired eyes.

Signups will be until August 7th and partners will be assigned on August 8th. Please mail your package by August 23rd so that everyone will receive by the end of the month.

You must be an OBF member to participate. Even if you decide not to join in the exchange this month, please feel free to post in discussions and play the games.

good morning Girls ready to try some lemon balm tea today. pulling my lemon mint out by the handfulls. Did not get any time in the garden this weekend. started to power wash my very large wood deck last friday for painting on sunday. my powerwasher blew the paint off the wood. so spent all weekend scraping the peeling paint. Paints specks on the house and shed.and my plants I had sitting on the grass.Next weekend will get painted. spent Monday watering and weeding my large vegetable garden. So that makes Tammys wellness box going out today. After picking up our "old" car. decided if we are going to keep it , fix it up. Hope everyones day is sunny and fun.

Thanks for posting your answers to the unscramble Kim and Nicole.

Kim, your answers for the You Guessed It Game are spot on, great job!

Kim, #3 was answered by Nicole, so did you mean #5 instead? If so you are correct in that answer. #4 is not remodeling though. Do you want to give it another try. Hint: It is related to a spa treatment that reduces the appearance of cellulite.

I will be posting another set of words to unscramble that are related to nutrition soon.

Susan B I hope you enjoyed your tea. You are working too hard this month by the way...take some time to relax. I know in Ohio it has turned chilly, at least here in the North East. So we have a small window of time to get painting and other outdoor projects done. You are a worker bee I must say lol!

    Bingo words for today are:

    Spa

    Aloe Vera

    You Guessed It Questions:

#11 Blueberries, strawberries, lychees, acai berries and pomegranate have something nutritionally important in common. What is it?

#12 This vitamin is needed for absorption of calcium. Folks living up North are often deficient in this vitamin and have to take supplements. What vitamin am I speaking of?

I hope you are all having fun with the games.

    Wishing you a thrilling Thursday!

Yes getting painting done. While at Lowe's picked up Pretty Perrine coral bells.

Been following a coral bells Facebook group. Collection goals😍
Looks so much nicer then hostas

Mailing out Annie's today will post a pic, hope everyone has a great day!

    Feliz (Happy) Friday everyone!

Nicole, you guessed it again! Answers to #11 and #12 are correct!

Susan, I love your coral bells. Lowes has great plants. I have not been there this year due to Covid. I am going to venture out and take a look soon though. I only have three coral bells and one is a plain green and the other is variegated green with white, and a dark purple one. I have a lot of hosta so I am going to try to amend the soil in a deep shad area of my yard and try to make a low maintenance shade garden with hosta and some stone paths and a bench or two and some large boulders. I always wanted a zen or meditation type garden but I have changed my mind about that. Going to try to go simple and low maintenance. Susan B do you know if the coral bells will do well in pretty dry shade? They would look so nice with the hosta. I need some ideas for what to plant in deep shade.

I hope you liked the You Guessed It game. I am closing that one out but will post more word unscrambles soon.

Annie, I was wondering where you were. Welcome back! I have had issues in the past with not being able to post and I had to use a different web browser for some time. It seems to be working better these days though.

Thank you so much Susan ( skyblue52) for all the great wellness box, Lots of great info. Received some fresh yellow tomatoes that i will be saving seeds from. Also a mason jar filled with blue suede shoes tomtoes, veggie scrubber, Germx hand sanitize, supplement- turmeric curcumin, St.Ives oatmeal mask and 3 packs of seeds-sweet basil, watermelon radish, and triple curled parsley. Wow!! Is all i can say! What a great box!! Thank you so very much!

Tried to post a picture but it wouldn’t let me. Thanks again Susan.

Jeanne I mailed your box out yesterday. So it will be there in few days. Lot going on- Sorry i am late.

Tammy I knew an adventure in the different colors of tomatoes would be fun for you. The timing after a dry some spell was tough to because off The cracking on top. The Moms best jar would be a special gift for a canner. They only sell for $1 on the resell market now. I feel some day they may be a part of Ohio history. They were only made in the 70s. A lot of crafts are made with them to keep them around. I had 5 crack last year . So no more canning with the ones I have left. Just storage. I had fun trying to get this together. I wanted to rebox to put some herbs in. But was concerned about the jar getting broken. Turmeric is a great herb. I have a gardening friend in India that sells spices. He wants to send me fresh . I sent him seeds last year. If India ever gets out of lock down . people are starving over there because all commence out of the country is stopped till Dec. All businesses are shut down much like we had.He is going to start tomatoes and peppers to sell. So glad we have figured out how to get our businesses back open.

Yes! Susan it was the perfect adventure. Love all of it and the jar is washed and placed with my other vintage items on my cabinet top in kitchen. I tried again to post pics but it won’t let me.

Happy Sunday to everyone. Sorry I was MIA yesterday, time got away from me. I spent the day catching up on shopping and other errands. *Recipe/Directions for a small "Disposable Herb Pillow, using a napkin and herb leaves....put in your pillow case....dispose when no more scent. And she made me a little chocolate herb pillow and included some chocolate mint stems and leaves and a napkin to make my own. Cute idea....smells wonderful. I would assume one could make these little pillows with fabric scraps too.
