The Charity Piece

A collection of fabrics that I was itching to work with.

Found a really cool zig zag pattern made w/ 2 patch pieces, not triangles.

I really like that altho' it's red, white & blue, it's not the traditional blue & very little white.

Different sections, this print is one of the ones that got me going; unusual color combination. Simple but effective.

I can't wait to sew this together, gonna be a beauty!

A handsome grouping, I learned from Missouri Star Quilter's Jenny Doan, who credited it to a trio called Three Dudes.

There are 3 columns of this by 3 rows. The fabric at the very bottom of the pic is a perfect print for the backing.

I am totally smitten w/ this pale blue I found at my Guild's Scrap/Share table, it's part linen, maybe 40%, gives it an interesting texture.

It's another lovely I'm eager to seam together.

This is a Pattern called Shattered Glass; I made a deal w/ myself to use up all my myriad Blues & Greens (my natural & favorite color palette).

Not necessarily the final arrangement, all the 'seams' are basted, so once seamed & pressed, I'll likely move them around some more. I like including the unusually colored plaids, they lend a very different feel to this (I think).

I think that purple / periwinkle hanging off the upper right will make a nicely calming border.

Do you baste all your quilts before sewing? Do you put together by machine?

Not usually, I used to baste everything, but once I moved on to a walking foot w/ a 1/4 inch marking, I quit basting (tho' I tend to still pencil 1/4" marks on to the fabrics, when possible).

Basting now is a function of no working sewing machine.

Here's my more common basting, this piece was machine sewn, but the sandwich was hand basted.
