Cage match!

I used to have a trumpet vine and a passion vine growing together, and neither one was the worse for it, but the passion vine created a huge mess when the old leaves died and perhaps got moldy. Anyway, it severely affected my allergies, but I did get about 60 to 80 passion fruit a day in the summer. I bought a Juiceman juicer to extract the passion juice, which I froze and then made into a sorbet, which was very fragrant.

For vines, I prefer Solandra maxima AKA Golden Chalice Vine. It is extremely easy to propagate, grow, and control, and I especially like the flowers. I don't think it attracts as many butterflies as the trumpet vine, but then the trumpet vine also makes a big mess from the old dead leaves. I've not grown wisteria.

Passion fruit will attract possums and raccoons, if you have them in your area.

I've yet to see anything kill wisteria. But the second vine may make the gazebo look messy. Your choice.

Thanks Lars and calliroe123. I love the butterflies, but as both of you said, the mess when the leaves die is just that, a mess. Maybe I will remove, if I still can, the Passion Vine.

Warning: Once you cut down the Passion Vine the roots will sucker and you'll find their new growth all over your yard.

So, this is where my battle is going on. I guess what you guys are saying is they can live together since they are both so strong???

well yes but they might bring down the gazebo! And when two vines like this get intertwined, your ability to prune/reduce them is severely hampered. I'd pick one and get rid of the other.
