Your stonework looks really nice. I think you will get a lot of people suggesting to remove your shutters, especially the ones on the large window.

New and colorful landscaping will also do wonders.

Congrats! Remove the dated shrubs in the front of the house and start over, larger lights flanking the front door, remove the shutters on the double window, add a flowerbox on the double window, remove the weeds from the sidewalk in front of the house and driveway, remove the jail door at the entrance, paint the front door a color that compliments your stonework and add some landscaping. This house has sooooooooo much potential. Have fun!

Landscaping is going to make all the difference. Check with PO about the mailbox. There used to be regulations about where you could install them. Take the scroll off the storm door and paint the inside door black

The front stoop is a death trap. Larger/wider/DEEPER....by quite a bit : And follow step codes. Walkway and drive way. landscaping/lawn attention : )

Cute house! Like others said, remove the badly pruned shrubs and start over. I'd plant some on both sides of the door for balance. If you enjoy gardening, you can deepen the planting beds so you can have a more interesting planting scheme.

IMO every front yard needs a tree. I'd look for something smallish and beautiful, and plant it between the house and the sidewalk on the two-window side of the house. Local full-service nurseries (not big box) can help with plant selections.

Another suggestion is to create a pathway from the sidewalk to the front door. It will do wonders for making the house feel inviting to visitors. If the budget allows, replace the entry stairs with something wider and deeper to make it more welcoming. If not, use your pathway paving materials to create a wider landing area before the stairs, where you can place a colorful pot or two.

And yes, ditch the storm door, and paint the front door something bright and cheerful. Take your time and have fun. It's going to be great!

Love your house! That front stoop is the stoop on every house in my childhood 1950's neighborhood. :-) We all lived through it somehow but agree, a larger one is so much nicer and safer. Love the ideas from visualimages.

Cute house! Lots of potential! What is behind the house - is it on your property and is it red at the top? I would paint the front door a pretty teal or blue, and get a glass front storm door. No shutters. What about a portico?
