Advice for extending a window opening

We are adding an addition that will connect to three exterior walls. Among other things, we are adding a new dining room that will connect to our kitchen. That said, I want to remove and open up the window area above the existing kitchen sink, but I don’t want to lose the upper cabinets to the right of the sink.

What issues am I going to have that I haven’t contemplated? I expect the sliders will be replaced with a cased opening and that I will lose the upper cabinet to the left.

thank you.

Hard to say without a plan. Can you post the footprint? Not sure where the dining room is being added.

Make sure you will be able to reach over the sink to open the new window. You might need crank out.

Thank you for the feedback. I’ve attached the existing configuration and added notes to it for context. It is an unusual house

at this time, I don’t really want to change existing walls (except making the kitchen window cut-out larger). We have two full length windows that could be converted to doors and two patio doors that could be used as openings.

they have proposed a shed metal stand and seam roof on the new part which is very typical for reno’s in this area. the roof situation had perplexed me for years so I was glad they could propose a solution

    thank you for weighing in.

Live wire oak, thank you for your feedback. Are you assuming they would somehow cut into the existing roof? The plan, as I understand it, is to lay it over the top of the existing structure.

I ahve to agree with Live this is a big mess waiting to happen. IMO the kitchen needs major work before even thinking about anything else so if that was done then the upper cabinets would not be needed but I have to agree get a new house it will be cheaper than what is planned and much better too. I have to say I really don’t understand what exactly you are doing.

I’m going to post 4 drawings. The first is the existing houseplan, then the demo, then the detailed plan, then the furniture (bc it might be easier to read). It might be more clear to see the plans. Thank you all. I’ve watched your advice for years and I appreciate your input.

Hi Dana, this is a complex renovation that requires first hand knowledge to properly provide advise on. You mentioned that there are others in your area who had done similar renovations. Could they provide advice? If you don't know them personally, and have a NextDoor community website in your area, you could post there and try to find others who have done similar renovations.
