You have a really nice home; great curb appeal. For starters, I would recommend removing all the plants/trees under the front of the house (small palms, are those rosebushes flanking either side of sidewalk?).

I would remove the shutters and where it is painted dark, paint it a white. I agree the plants should not be at the foundation. Plant island beds or either side of the walkway.

Definitely like decoenthusiaste’s idea. I also thought of opening up the table to have a truss of some sort, but the style may clash with LA feel unless painted white.

These are the plants in front. There were two sago palms there that we had removed. The property has lots of palms, twenty-something.
