The area rug currently in the photo is earmarked for the thrift store. Please ignore :)

Hello, here are a couple of articles that may give you some ideas on how to match rugs to wall decor:

What style of rug do you prefer? Oriental, abstract, florals, tribal, geometrics? Your artwork is abstract so I think I'd look for something with a defined pattern that complements the colors in the artwork. What do you think of something like this? https://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-tribal-medallion/Blue/200KHMC04A-P.html?

    I like this one... thoughts?

It could work. It would be a lot more subtle than your current rug.

Thank you! I appreciate your advice

Thank you Kswl 2... you are not the first to suggest that. My partner doesn’t agree... I’m picking my battles lol

Yes. Here you go. Thank you!!

I plan to choose a rug that’s a bit larger than this one. I just don’t want it so big that it extends beyond the doorway on the left.

    I like this one....

    Do you think it works?

I do think that could work. It's a bit more casual than the rug under your dining table but they should coordinate well. Order the smallest size to try it for color and texture. That way, it's easy to return if it doesn't work.

Thank you for your advice katinparadise. I order carpets on line via Lowe’s so it’s an easy return to the store.

    I like this one too...

I love this one, but I don’t love the price.

I wouldn't place a beige rug on a predominately gray tile floor because IMO it's too bland.

    • I think the area could benefit if you would consider a larger sized rug to encompass all your seating. Right now the area looks like a postage stamp in size.
    • Not sure which way to run the rug, so the few last photos show rugs turned both ways.
    • The scale of your table lamp seems too small for the seating you have selected & I have added a buffet lamp to your console table (see picture 2)

These rugs are from RugsUSA.com but they are available online from many retailers.

Thank you for your advice BeverlyFLADeziner!! It is a small seating area. I moved the recliner away from the area so I could get a better photo of the carpet. Here’s what the seating area looks like. I have to be careful with the size because I don’t want the recliner half on/off the carpet. It will be unsteady. I like your carpet suggestions especially the first one. Thank you again for your help!!

I actually think a tone on tone rug would look very elegant, calm, and sophisticated in your room, and allow your art to stand alone and be the star ... as well as look cohesive with your dining rug/decor. You could bring in more color with pillows, if desired.

In this room, your art is bold and dramatic, so I’d not want the same in a rug, or want it be too matched.

happy, they are on Rugs Direct (good company, I’ve ordered from them twice myself ... in fact, just got a new rug delivered today) —

ETA: I like Beverly’s lamp mock-ups, the bigger table lamp fits well there.

This is how I thought your furnishings and rug should be positioned. As for one foot of the recliner being off the rug,......that's what furniture levelers are for.

There needs to be clearance between the recliner and the wall behind it to walk through the area. Will furniture levelers work on a round tubular base? It’s a swivel recliner. Thank you so much for your advice BeverlyFLADeziner!!

I agree Jinx. I like Beverly’s lamp mock up too. You have a taller glass base lamp in my den. I may just swap out the lamps. Thanks for the rug info.

I agree with @Jinx. I was also thinking along the lines of more of a tone on tone rug, when I looked at your space. A rug that is more synched up with your floor, as well as with your furniture, would provide a neutral and calm backdrop to showcase your art. I also agree that this approach could give you an elegant look.

BeverlyFLADeziner - I just tested the recliner on a carpet half on/off. There are no issues with stabilization. Based on that I will go for an 8 x 11 area rug. Sometimes it takes me awhile to figure these things out. Lol Thanks again!

Freedomplace1 - thank you for sharing your thoughts and another carpet choice. :)

    You’re welcome. :)

I was looking around for another rug idea for you, and just got back.

So here’s a view with a fun shag:

And I am TRYING to “rotate the rug” - but RugsUSA apparently have a mind of their own... ;)

Also, I really like your table lamp, but I think you could go a bit bolder if you wanted to. Love the coffee table, btw.

I don’t know if this is your style or if it’s ‘the’ lamp for your space - but it is a statement lamp, and one of my faves - so I’m throwing it in.

My suggestion was that you walk in front of the recliner.

Thanks BeverlyFLADeziner. My thought is the recliner will be in exile if I do that. I would rather it be included with the rest of the furniture. The dimensions of the area are challenging.

Hello, i'm already a huge fan of home decorating, i can suggest you some rug's ideas, i have 3 minimalistic rugs at home, they're a bit expensive but i can't describe the quality(timeless) and design soo incredible, i bought them online, the first for my living room 2 years ago, and the 2 others for my bedroom and nursery about 4 months ago, seriously i didn't change the seller, he makes personalized rugs in any dimensions you want, you can see it's reviews on the shop

    i hardly recommend it

    Here's the link

    Hope that Helps :D

THANK YOU BeverlyFLADeziner!! We took the old carpet away and rearranged the furniture as you suggested. Very happy with the results! Thanks again :)

Thank you all for your valued advice. Found an area rug at a local store. Mission accomplished.

    Looks great!

    Thanks dianabythelocks!

a few more ideas, IMO i would consider a neutral rug with some blue in it so it does become all beige, especially with your tile floor the rug needs a little contrast in it.

oops, sorry just saw you found one, looks great and I like that it has some blue in it forncontrast with the floor.

Thank you Theresa!! Yes, although it doesn’t show too much in my photo it’s definitely there and pulls in the color blue from the print on the wall. It’s a distressed traditional - it coordinates with the rug in the dining area. Thank you so much. I’m so grateful for all the advice I received on this thread. :)
