You get under soffit molding that handles the top of cab in Relation to projection of soffit. It can be just fine . However what is going on here does not reflect any sort of discussion or planning In that he is actually creating that bulkhead .... and suddenly this is thrust upon you? I don’t know . At least ask to see a picture of this . Even w crown you are left w 3 inch projection??? The under soffit molding would be better : more simple and leave you with something palatable . the best possible thing is perhaps you aren’t catching exactly what they mean: All should have been thoroughly gone over in planning and you signed off. Did you sign a final plan?

It is honestly my fault for not realizing that I was getting double crown (crown at cabinet and at ceiling), although I wasn't told there would be 3" bulkhead extending past the cabinet crown. Apparently, that how they do the double crown. Right now, the bulkhead is framed, no cabinets so its not like you can see the bulkhead extending past. I was wondering if anyone had a picture of something like or could tell me what I want instead, lol. The cabinet crown molding is in with the cabinets I guess from the manufacturer, and if I want a different molding I would have to reorder from the cab manuf, have him redo the framing, etc. I just don't know what I want! And yes, I need the bulkhead because of venting or something, but I also wanted a way to extend the cabs up to the ceiling. The framing for the bulkhead is 10" tall and 30" depth above my counter depth area (for pantry and fridge) and like 18" above the regular uppers and vent hood.

I've never seen or heard of double crown, once at cabinet/soffit interface and once at soffit/ceiling interface. Sounds like too much going on. Does your contractor have a picture of an existing installation he has done with this feature?

I have asked for a pic but haven't received anything yet. It is honestly my fault for not realizing what was going on. My first reno and I definitely did not plan enough . Thanks for your pics. I like the 4th style the best. I need a bulkhead for venting the hood because we did not have one previously. Since the framing is already done for the bulkhead, I need to be sure what I want to do, but I am not. it might be best to just let it ride out but I'm not good at that, lol

From your first sentence ... is the contractor also the designer or do you have a separate person responsible for design... ? getting feedback and so on at this point might be facilitated better if a separate design person were available to you.... and I would definitely call or text or email. Could not tell from your sentence
