The nearest Wegman's is at least an hour drive from me, so I've never shopped there. :)

Tee Hee. The nearest Trader Joe's and Costco are an hour from me. I do shop at both. Aim for once a month but I don't usually make it quite that often.

FYI, organic red onions are not in the recall. I rarely go out of my way to buy organic produce, but needed them for Greek salad, so I was glad to read this from my CSA vendor!

Just to get out of the house (not quarantined but just extra cautious because of age and health factors), we drove out east of town and visited a couple of roadside farmer's markets. Bought several different kinds of standard produce (small potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, W. TX cantaloupe, fresh peaches, etc.) and was assured that most if not all of it came from S. TX rather than shipped in from out of state. In one case, the merchant even showed us the boxes that the produce came packed in which gave location and grower information.

I do recall that the only thing that wasn't Texan was a big ol bottle of real Mexican vanilla for only $16 and which we snapped up on.

Be cautious of Mexican vanilla....lots of problems with it...here's one article - there are many, many more cautions you can find by googling. I will never use Mexican vanilla because there is no way to confirm that the labeling is correct, esp if not bought from a major and/or well respected retailer...

Yes, I too have been burned by Mexican vanilla. It definitely was NOT vanilla in that jar.

The vanilla beans come mostly from Madagascar and the trees were devastated by some human fault some years ago and are having to be reestablished. That is why vanilla got so expensive .

I wouldn't trust a bottle of Mexican vanilla at this point in time, especially at that low price.
