Yup, re-do with a curbed Schluter shower. (Small rant: I've never understood the rationale for curbless showers. Is it really that hard for able-bodied individuals to step over a 3" or 4" inch threshold...when presumably you have things like 7" or 8" tall stairs in your house? Is there something so nose-wrinklingly offensive about the way shower curbs look that it's worth putting up with a shower that may not have enough slope to drain properly, and will flood the bathroom in minutes if the drain gets plugged? I don't get it).

For sure, curbless is the way to go with someone in a wheelchair.

Did you use a pre-made shower pan that was designed for curbless installation? To get the proper slope and distance from the floor level to the drain, most curbless pans must be recessed below the lever of the bathroom floor. This can be sometimes be accomplished by removing the subfloor and dropping it between the floor joists to lower the floor.

Curbless showers are needed for wheelchair access, so Schluter and others sell pans that are designed for a near-zero entry height (I think code allows 1/2" for the wheelchair to roll over). However, you really need to fully prep the floor (framing, height, etc.) and do everything according to manufacturer's directions.

As tactfully as I can, your husband is out of his league. There are very specific code requirements for curbless showers; familiarize yourself with them please. The age and levelness of your home is not an issue. Good luck with hiring a pro.
