Invasive Cane Toad Infestation

Isaac Dorio

Hello,

I find myself in a bit of a dilemma. I live in southwest Florida where cane toads are an environmental hazard. We're advised to kill them when we see them. We just put in a 3500 gallon pond, stocked with some fish, plenty of aquatic plants, etc. I knew when I put the thing in that I would see some tadpoles and other natural life, but I completely underestimated how much of a pest (and how quickly they reproduce) cane toads really are.

I've only tried skimming the tadpoles, but its virtually impossible to get them all out. I'm not going to drain the pond (I've seen other people recommend doing this) because it's only a few weeks old.

Is this just something I'm going to have to deal with, or is there some way I can bait them into a trap or something? If anyone has any advice it would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!
