I bought a home in an older neighborhood in the Phoenix area that is part of the SRP flood irrigation district. My yard gets between 2-4 inches of water with each flood and it takes about an hour for most of the standing water to disappear. The dirt remains soft for several days. Being summer, I receive two floods per month. Everything seems happy waterwise, so I rarely need to supplement with the sprinklers.

My first question is regarding trees. I know that citrus and jacaranda trees love flood irrigation, but what else is a good option? What is a bad option? I'm worried about waterlogged roots, even with sandy loam.

My second question is regarding weeds. I seem to have a constant battle with broadleaf weeds, spurge in particular. I was using a selective liquid weed killer when it was cooler, but stopped when temps went well above the recommended range and it started hurting my bermudagrass. Can I use granular weed killers with flood irrigation, and if so, are there any tricks?
