Tile Intolerance

Dear Houzzers,

My contractor and I are in a disagreement on whether the tile in the shower was done correctly. The picture is of the corner after he redid it to get the tiles to line up closer. The second picture is how he placed the right tile at an angle to get it closer to the left tile. He swears that they line up, and/or it is within tolerance, and looks good. Thoughts?

I agree that could look better, but I do have one question: How uniform are those tiles? They do not all look to be exactly the same dimension in the vertical direction. If they are off by even a small amount, getting them to line up perfectly is not possible.

That probably would be much less noticeable, a much cleaner look, if you'd used a grout closer to the color of the tile. That stark white is showing every flaw.

It’s within MY tolerance. After all, how many people are going to be studying the tiles in your shower?

Unfortunately, I don’t. We picked out the tile together and the tiler picked out the grout and caulk color. Regarding color, are you talking about the caulk in the corner, the grout, or both?

They are pretty uniform. We used it in another bathroom. The tile in the other corners line up.

Have you precisely measured various of the tiles from top to bottom to see if they are exactly the same, or are they just "pretty uniform"? Unless the perspective in the photos is distorted, it still looks to me like there are slight variations in the tile sizes. If that is so, then the tiler had to make continuous placement adjustments as he tiled to try to best balance out the variations.
