Where are you located and what is shading it from the west? Any chance of a pic of the area and which hinoki is it?

If it's one of the yellow cultivars that can burn in hot summer sun then you won't in fact want a full sun planting site for it.

eastern sun is the best,,,but how do you keep it all day , does your yard rotate ? COOL

Here is the hinoki I want to plant. Thank you for any help with its traits and needs. My question about the eastern exposure was to ask about what happens to the side that gets little to no sun? I know a juniper planted against a house will be brown and bare on the house side, while a yew will still be evergreen.

How close to the house are you going to plant it? Can we get a pic of that site and where are you?

I’m n ny zone 6b. I’m not planting it by the house. I’m looking over my property to see where I could plant it. One spot Is on the edge of woods where it would get almost full sun on one side but shade on the other. Another possibility is in a clearing in the woods.
