i think its just normal coloration for a new leaf ...

maybe thats why it was called a festival ... lots of puns in the hosta world ...

In the spring the leaves certainly had a wider green margin, with perhaps a bit of yellow in the white centers, but looked essentially the same. They definitely didn't have this overall pale green/yellow look.

I agree with Ken that it looks like normal new leaves of the second flush of growth. They are really cool looking right now, so it would awesome if they stayed that way. If you can post a new picture in 1 month, I would love to see how the color and leaf pattern evolves. Color Festival is in the Captain Kirk lineage (from Gold Standard). Gold Standard and all of its sports/offspring tend sport easily. Most of the sports are quite garden-worthy.

Is this a first year plant for you? Do you remember leaves this color in previous years? Ken and utog are the experts, I try to act like one......lol...

I am asking because it is possible the plant is sporting, coming up with a change in leaf pattern. This is why utog wants you to post a new picture in a month. If it changes to look like the other leaves, then that is normal variation within the hosta. If it keeps this coloration, then you have a sport and normally we want to separate those to have a unique plant. This is how hostas are propagated. For instance Color Festival is a sport of Enterprise.

It's a second year plant, and I don't remember leaves like that at all. And yes, I wondered if it was a sport, but didn't want to leap to any conclusions. If it does turn out to be one, when would be the best time to separate it? (ETA: I'm just outside of Philadelphia, Zone 7, which only seems to show up in my username via gardenweb, not Houzz).

Mine comes up looking much like that until it bleaches out later in the year. You are probably growing yours in more sunlight. Although your new eye is looking a little streaky. I'd leave it and see what it does next year.
