For a tree planted in the heat of midsummer, it doesn't look too bad!! Foliage looks a little chewed up but I can't tell whether from insects or just transplant shock. Just keep up the watering program and it should be fine.

btw, this is a superior selection of flowering crab and will make a lovely memorial for your dog.

If you are asking about what appears to be tearing and maybe bruising in the first picture if you drove home with it exposed to wind it might have gotten some leaf damage from that. Otherwise the premature yellowing of the oldest leaves will tend to indicate a soil moisture issue - either not enough or too much. Poke around in the soil and do a visual inspection to keep track of what effect your approach to watering is having on moisture levels.

And if the tree is sitting in lawn with the grass coming right up to it establishment would be better if it were in a mulched grass free area maybe 3' across.

Looks good to me. Watch out with overwatering after a couple of weeks you only have to water it every few days if you’re not getting any rain plus at this time of the year you don’t wanna encourage new growth. After a few weeks you only want to give it a deep soak once a week if you don’t have any rain. By the time you hit October you might not need to water it at all.
