I think I know, but to be clear I s the color you wanted the section that’s under”Pa” on your board or the section that’s under “m’s”? The finished is very white. I hope someone has a suggestion for how to remove that stain.

Hi! I am having the same dilemma. White oak cabinets but do not want yellow. I am considering the minwax white and then clear protective coat. Can you send me a closeup of your cabinets and how it turned out. The first picture looks so different than the end product. Thanks in advance.

I don’t have a closeup but am sending pic of kitchen and bath vanity. Kitchen cabinets had Minwax white applied but bathroom vanity did not. In hindsight, I would not have stressed out so much and just gone with the clear, (no Minwax white) finish. Probably difficult to see from photos but here they are. This is a second home so I am not there currently to take better photo.

What did you end up doing with the cabinets? I'm trying to find a finish for rift sawn white oak cabinets that looks natural too. I like your first look you wanted and your bathroom. Was the minwax you used water based or oil based? I'm leaning water based as they say the oil tends to yellow more.

The kitchen cabinets had minwax white + clear. Bathroom vanity was clear only. I asked for waterbased but pretty sure he used oil. Following instructions and directions is not his strong suit and I am amazed that despite how specific we were, cabinet maker and contractor did things on their own. "I took it upon myself...to do it this way" and didn't ask for our approval first.

We are I’m the process of figuring out our stain for our rift sawn white oak cabinets. We were planning to use Minwax Simply white stain and matte water based poly. But, our cabinet maker says he does not use water based products and wants to use lacquer instead. I’m not sure what to do!

Pamela Cook, also struggling with riff cut white oak stain. Your kitchen is lovely, my question is, since photos do not truly depict the color as it is seen with the eye live in the room, do your kitchen cabinets have a pink tone?

Not pink, but more white and pale? than expected…if that makes sense

If you understand the process it‘s not hard to achive. This is something we do on the doors we sell but not something we teach our competitiom how to do. There are many ways to go about it with varing results but throgh experence and knowledge it can be a one step process like the sample below.

I found a stain professional who is the best stain matching colourist in Southern Ontario . I read so much about processes almost drove 2 1/2 hours to see Rubio products but the person doing my kitchen uses a different product. I understand people wanting to protect a hard sought after and developed process for a commercial product not wanting to share it. If my kitchen turns out the way I envisioned it, I will have no problem sharing what she did.

This comment about sharing is old, have a control sample from the finisher, approved it. When I went to inspect the actual cabinets, they are golden

Want the one on the left - control sample - got the one on the right. So frustrating. I’ve been without a kitchen 5 months. Finisher claims he followed same instructions - so why are these so different?

If I had my guess I bet the left one was a water based finish which doesn't cause the 'yellowing'.

I will inquire as I know where all the product was purchased from.

I have rift sawn white oak. I had my carpenter at a touch of white to the water based poly and it came out natural looking. It doesn’t take but a teaspoon per quart. Too much makes it whitewashed looking

I don’t think my carpenter grain matched. It’s rift sawn white oak so I suppose he just bought all the wood he needed at the same time. The panels are veneer ply and the edges are solid wood he figured out how to make a thin profile.
