My first thought was to pull a color from your landscaping, using your favorite flower, especially if you've brought any of the landscaping colors inside your home. :-)

I'm not feelin' the Aspen Valley color, but it probably looks *way* different on my screen than it looks in person. Color is darn near impossible (for me?) to truly evaluate without actually standing in front of it, lol.

I definitely think you are on the right track, choosing a nice bold color, rather than a neutral. <3

Definitely not green! It gets hotter than most colors – just ask your plants!l Besides, that green is darker than your current brown color. I think that rosy pink that I see in your flower bed would be perfect!

@Flo Mangan...I was considering purple but couldn't find the "right" shade. The first photo is a little "too" purple but I'm loving the second one....any thoughts on what the color might be?

I have no idea which shades of purple are in Miss Flo's pictures, but if you have a Benjamin Moore store nearby, I'd recommend picking up some purple chips. It was incredibly easy for me to eliminate chips, because there just aren't that many "true" purple offerings (in general), and I wanted something that wasn't too bright/juvenile.

My personal favorite is BM Kalamata (AF-630), because it's a warmer, rich shade of purple/plum, but it might be too dark for ya. :-/

I agree that the right purple would be very nice! Pick paint chips that are grayer/browner than you think you want and be sure to look at them and your sample boards in full sun. A color that looks like a sophisticated plum inside the house can turn into grape koolaid in the sun.

BTW, what color is your roof? You need to be careful not to clash with any of the house elements including the roof.

I found a few colors I want to sample:

Start with SW Impulsive Purple. Since your door is under a porch overhang, you need more punch and less graying.

I would do a nice Caribbean turquoise.

The purple colors suggested are very pretty but you mentioned you want to stay away from dark colors. How about a yellow?

How about a bright teal like Sherwin Williams Briny? Here’s a few inspiration pics.

Due to the pale neutrals on your house i would go for a “dusty” shade of whatever color you choose..not so bright or deep or crisp...

The lighter the door ...the better it will show through the outer glass door..the darker colors just turn it into a mirror...

@donnab63 That’s a nice neutral roof. I asked because I see some roof choices that will make a big difference in what other colors can be used. For instance, someone in my neighborhood just put a dark green roof on their white house. They also painted the shutters and door to match the roof, so I think they really like green! Which is fine, of course, but if someday they decide they’d prefer a red door they might wish the roof was a neutral gray.

I like the purples you’ve listed, but I see others are suggesting bright would be better. It’s hard to make a decision like this from a picture online, so you’ll ultimately have to pick what you think looks best in person. I’m sure whatever you pick will add a nice accent to your pretty house.

@mayflowerlace After much agonizing and several poster board paint samples, I decided on BM Kasbah. It is a dusty purple color and I'm loving it!

Great. Even better without screen door. There are rollback screens that might work better for you. But if you are in cold zone at least you have full glass. Very pretty. Yellow flowers good choice too! Congrats!

I think a nice teal or a deep pink would be nicer than the purple, but the idea of tying in to your flower colours is great as well. Anything that reads happy and summer is better than that existing brown. You’ll pick fine, follow your gut. Good luck!
