You did a great job! Maybe paint the spindles same color as the house or white so they donot stand out so much.

I’ll take a pic tomorrow of the new spindles we used for the stairs...it was dark outside when I realized I didn’t have a saved pic of it. The post at the bottom of the stairs is the new color of stain we just stained the floor of porch and stairs with. The last picture is just how I’m picturing what a screened in porch would look like if we decide to close in 2/3 of porch, while keeping it open at staircase. Would it look good screened in? Or should we keep open?

Yes, screen will look fine. Enjoy the porch all the time.

Although I am not a fan of a screen there, I would do it if it was a matter of function.

Are the kids playing out in the front of the house more than the backyard and you find bugs to be an issue?

Or, you like sitting there but find bugs are limiting your use of this porch?

To answer your question, it would look better without but it just would not function better.

I'm a personally believer of mixing functionality with looks. What's the point of the house if you make it look good for others if you can't enjoy it? It's like a fancy car in your driveway but not able to drive it.

In order for me to help me better, please tell me how you plan to use this area. Is your thought of a screen more for privacy or bugs? What is directly across the street from you?

If I’m thinking correctly, you might plan to screen in 2/3 of your porch and leave 1/3 unscreened. That would require another door (screened) into the screened-in section. Not bad. As one person commented, it depends on whether you want to sit out there and not be bothered by bugs. I prefer the open look that you have right now; it looks welcoming, but only you can decide how you want the porch to function. One other note regarding the space under the porch: Either use lattice that will blend in or leave it open and rely on the bushes to grow. Your drawing looks like two too many ways to close in that area.

NancyD- yes, we would build a wall with a door to the left as we walk out the front door. It would open up into the screened room, against the siding.

The last pic is the screened porch at the back of the house...we thought we’d build it similar to that one...I love the coziness of it!

I don’t know why part of my msg didn’t come up? What I was mentioning is that it would be used primarily for function from the bugs, not for privacy at all.

More pics of our back porch. We finally get to enjoy summer more being bug free! The sun is so hot in the mornings...so this is the afternoon/evening porch! The front one would be for morning coffees and to watch fall evening sunsets!

What a beautiful home you have, and all your modifications look lovely. I especially like the design on the screened area of the back porch next to the sign that says “Stay awhile.” Unique! I think you’ll do a good job, whatever you decide, regarding the screening of the front porch.

If you front porch is for morning coffees and fall sunsets, you may not need a screened porch if bugs are your concern. Depends your location but bugs, especially mosquitoes don't come out a bit after sunset. But if you'd like, then screens would be a oood option for bugs.

We finally finished the screened in porch! I love it and we’re using it a lot more than we ever did before! Here is the finished look! I just need to move the lights to center them now:)
