So don't go for the "best toilet" just get one that is the right comfort height for you

Kohler Wellworth Classic shows at $268 on the Kohler site so not a big box product. It's the only Kohler I saw that is not Comfort height. More Comfort height being produced due to ADA guidelines.

I don’t need the best, I just want one that works well (I don’t want to have to fix it a lot) but more importantly is comfortable. Are the Kohler generally reliable?

Unfortunately, I can’t find anywhere to actually sit on toilets to try them. The ones we got feel cheap and don’t flush well -sometimes you have to hold the handle to get it to work.

I did go to a showroom here with Kohler but they didn’t have the Wellworth. I couldnt find a showroom with other brands.

Have you looked on AmericanStandard? You can sort by height, and they have a number of standard height at various price points.

Yes, I did find the Cadet 3 in standard height and it was on my list. But I couldn’t find anywhere to sit on it or test it out. My home improvement stores have the display toilets on high shelves.

We like Toto. They come in all heights and price ranges. I am 5’1” and I actually don’t have a problem with comfort height.

Both if Toto’s are comfortable. One was under $200, our master over $600.

Go to HD they have lots of toilets to sit on

Just get a standard height toilet from Lowes or Home Depot, using Standard American or Kohler or Toto as a reliable brand. Just see if you can sit comfortably on a home chair at that standard height. They really are all the same -just that the quality of workmanship is better with some brands over others.

Although I am coming at this at the opposite direction from you, I totally get your point!

,Kudzu9: I admit though that at 6 foot 1, if I have to sit on a standard height toilet at someone else's house, I NEED something near me to grab onto to get myself back up (two bum knees and a bad ankle will do that... a sink or window ledge will work fine...). But if I were a guest in your home I'd never ever admit to this to you. Indeed, I have one friend when I visit her I purposely dehydrate myself so I don't have to use her bathroom as the only way to get up from the throne is to put my hands on the toilet seat to push up. Or drop down on the floor.

artemis- I hear you and agree. I was just observing that three relatives of mine — who are vocal about everything — would have complained if I failed to meet their exacting toilet requirements. 😂

Thank you all. I know I am overthinking this, probably in some part because I’ve been so uncomfortable in the past with very tall toilets or crummy seats. You’ve been very helpful. :)

@artemis_ma - I don‘t like most chairs for the same reason - my feet don‘t touch the ground! If I can’t find something to prop my feet on, I end up sitting cross-legged. It’s interesting to hear your experience from the other side of the world!

Have you ever considered a toilet stool? Not only will one give you a raised platform for your feet, but it actually puts you in a better position to have improved elimination. One called Squatty Potty sells for under $30. So you can install a toilet that works for guests and family members, and you just have your own adjustment to make for yourself when you use it.

Deco I had that thought also. Those Squatty Potty people (mother & son) made a fortune

on that invention.
