Desperate for help with paint!

I moved into my house about a year ago. Ever since, the paint has caused me tremendous anxiety. I don’t necessarily hate the color, but it’s a flat finish and EVERYTHING leaves a mark. I have two young children and anything that touches the wall leaves a horrible stain (as visible in several pictures!) I’ve decided I want to paint the downstairs. I don’t have a specific color picked out, but I intend to have granite installed in my kitchen, along with a backsplash, so I feel this is my opportunity to pick something different. However, I’m a little nervous about changing the entire look of the house. This is my first home and I’ve never had to pick out paint before! I bought a sample of London Fog, but to me it just looks too light since my house has a lot of windows. Any advice on colors would be MOST appreciated!

@Trisha K Your floors are beautiful! Benjamin Moore's AF-685 Thunder is a bit darker than London Fog, and has slightly more chroma. Other than saying that London Fog is too light, you don't say if you like it with your floors. I would pick the granite first if you want the same color in the kitchen, and whatever color you choose needs to go with your gorgeous fireplace! When you have those in place you can think accent colors and the other fun stuff. Is the kitchen open to the family room?

IMO before choosing anything including the counters and backsplash get all your lighting the same and that is LED bulbs everywhere in 4000K ( daylight) it will make choosing all colors much easier. I happen to like grayed/ greens for a neutral insted of grays or beiges.

@simplechoices thank you! London Fog seems to pick up blue-ish undertones in my house, which I do not like. I’m going to try and get a few other BM gray colors to see if I can find anything with a more “earthy” feel. I’ll definitely get a sample of Thunder! And yes - the kitchen opens directly to the family room.

@PatriciaColwellConsulting thank you for the advice! I’ll definitely see if I can find some 4000k clear bulbs for my pendants. I also have those pesky fluorescent overhead lights but I’ll see if I can find the 4000k in those as well. I know lighting makes a huge difference... unfortunately I’m a little limited on budget as I have SO much to re-do, but hopefully down the road we can replace the lighting as well. Thanks again!

@PatriciaColwellConsulting are there any grayed/ green colors you’ve found and love?

I painted a small side of my island in London Fog. Here’s a picture. This is when it’s pitch black outside. I feel like it’s too “blue-ish” and doesn’t make the white “pop”....

@Trisha K If you find Thunder the right Value (how light/dark a color is), but find it is not "earthy" enough, take a look at BM CW-715 Bone Black or SW Mindful Gray.

@Trisha K BM Gray Horse is definitely a greyed green-yellow, but not sure how green you actually want to go.

I have SW mindful gray in my garage, guest bedroom and basement. It’s absolutely amazing in all lights at all times of the day. It blends browns and grays really well (thinking of your fireplace). It’s a color to never grow old of.

Revere pewter might be a good option, and pashmina. They’re both griege-y.
