A lot of people cut the spears and root them back up only to face the same problem in a few more years down the road. Mine doing the same thing. I guess it's the nature of the beast.

I am guessing that it is S.cylindrica var. patula - which has leaves naturally arching to a great degree, rather like buffalo horns. Personally I like this type better than "pure" species (I have this too, repotted it lately and leaves are some 4 feet long, VERY unsteady and I was forced to fit the pot with a plant support).

Those Katydids can really do a number on our plants. I have chew holes in some of mine. Those arching leaves are pretty! But I can see where this plant would need to have a dedicated space of its own for its protection, and possibly some sort of support.

I like this S. Sulcata. Same type of leaves but stays upright but very tall growing.

Stem cutting to what you see in about 3 years. Each new leaf seems to try to out grow the last one.

Basia, thank you for the name. I have a smaller cylindrica but they are growing in a group.

Most of the leaves are the thickness of a pencil.

Shana, I think I will have to get some dowels to keep it upright. I was just concerned about stabbing through the roots.

Nancy, Don't know. Saw one picture in the wild and they were 10 feet or more. In pot culture, I think they could get 6 feet. Mine are 3 feet now.

S.sulcata has been "moved" into S.canaliculata and the accepted max. height is about 3 feet.

Sansevieria Stuckyii I think I got mixed up with S. sulcata. Hope your right about only 3 feet.
