Decorating a settee.

Hi all. We have been doing a lot in our house lately. I got this cute Hancock and Moore Settee for 75.00 on market place. It’s in my study. I’m in the process of picking out a paint color and just wondering if anyone has suggestions on side tables, decorations, art, lamp etc next to it. we are removing the carpet and getting hardwood but that has been a process.

GREAT buy! I have some Hancock Moore furniture and it's hard to beat. The fabric on yours gives it a somewhat 'formal' look, for lack of a better word. I'd want to use patterned pillows on it, and lighter colors, with some off-white to pick up the color of the settee fabric.

If that was mine I would do bolster type pillows and no throw across the back. As for wall color I would wait until the new floors are in before choosing that. Could you post some pics of the space since it is impossible to see how this piece is working in there and that is important to advise about other items.

It‘s too difficult to suggest specifics without knowing what else is in room, its style and how it will all work together. I suggest though using smaller and lighter pieces

I would avoid so contrasting pillows, I would and get wall art above.

Thanks everyone, The other side of the room is a mess. I was embarrassed to post it. Lol Please excuse the mess. Our house is in disarray from various remodeling projects, it’s a weird shaped room that is right in front of the house as you walk in. I work from home 100% of the time. This is the other side, the desk is going, I would like something small and elegant, the cross wall is going, and the dog bed is only in here because we had to move it somewhere for a few days for another project. . It’s going to basically be a blank slate except for the settee. We are FINALLY empty nesters and doing something’s we have wanted to do forever. I have always wanted a elegant office.

I’m more farmhouse style decor, but wanted to do something different in the office. More elegant. Can I miss styles?

Rooms can be different, but probably because you lean towards a more rustic look you may feel more comfortable with that style. Below is an office that is elegant, but has a rustic flare so could be a good compromise

Here are two that are feminine/elegant. It’s really what you like and the settee will work with all of them

Maureen, that’s exactly what I’m going for!I think like Patricia mentioned, maybe I should get the floors done (this pandemic is slowing everything down) and then paint and then start with adding the rest. I LOVE what you posted though. Perfect.

Glad to hear. 😀 Start saving ideas and searching for Items/sales etc. so you are ready to go when floor is done (shouldn't have a huge factor in your choices). Suggest painting last based on rug, accessories, art, etc. Bring home lots of paint chips and see now they feel with your room’s lighting and the items being Incorporated. Should be fun!
