You do not have space to turn that into a walk in all you will have with that extensin is a useless reach in deep closet . Concentrate on making the reach in you have more uesable like with good organizing. BTW when posting a floor plan show all measurements not just the size of the room . IMO your best solution is to tear out that wall that is norw got the 2 clsets and turn that space into a Pax system from Ikea with sliding glass doors and tons of really awesome storage What is the curved wall you show by the bathroom.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll attach the full floorplan for that floor.

We thought about the idea again, and read the discussions here: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/2830509/walk-in-closet-narrow-clothes-on-just-one-side-pictures

After measuring our existing closet, it seems we need 2ft for hanging clothes anyway. If we hung clothes on both sides, that'd leave us with only 1 ft of walking space which is too narrow. So we can't really use both sides of the wall. If that's the case, extension doesn't really add any value.

There is no curved wall, the screenshot probably got messed up.

Another option we were thinking is to remove the current closet wall and flip the layout. I.e have our bed be on that wall which has closets currently and closet (6ft wide) on the other side of the wall. I've attached a floor plan based on my calculation.

King bed (80inch), ottoman (24inch) and closet (6ft = 72inch). Which leaves around 50inch or around 4 ft between the ottoman and the closet. Is this a good idea? The only thing is that the bed doesn't get a continuous wall right next to it (on both sides) as one side has a walkway and the other side has entry to balcony.

Is this worth doing? Or does the layout seem too weird?

bump!

I don't think you'd be accomplishing anything by moving the bed to the other side. I prefer Patricia's idea of just making that one big, well-organized closet. 13' of well organized closet space should give you all the storage you need and the money you would save on labor, materials and possibly even having to replace flooring will more than pay for a gorgeous reach in closet system.

Thanks for your comments @katinparadise. I'll research some more about reach-in closets in that case.

You're welcome. Good luck with your project!

I’m not familiar with the Pax system, but I can highly recommend Elfa from the Container Store.
