Pothos RAPIDLY yellowing!! Please help!!!

Hi all,

So I'm taking care of a friend's pothos that she's had for about 2 years with no problems. I've had it since mid-June but around mid-August I started to notice some of the leaves yellowing slowly all over the plant. I asked her if she's had that problem before and we realized that I was watering the plant too often, every 3 or so days. I was worried that the plant had root rot (but didn't check the roots right away, because I didn't want to disturb the rootball) so I let the soil dry out completely. Then I went out of town for a week and got one of those watering globes so that the plant wouldn't go without water for too long, but I came back and saw several more yellow and light brown wilted leaves.

I checked immediately to see if the plant had root rot, and I think they actually looked fine? The only thing I noticed that of concern was that the plant looked like it was becoming root bound. (See picture attached).

But I pruned several smaller roots just to be safe, and took off all the yellow leaves, then loosened the soil around the rootball and put it back in the pot. That was on Aug. 31. The next day, I noticed several more yellow leaves (after I had pruned them all) and I started freaking out. I don't think the problem is root rot, or fungal disease, so I thought it maybe the plant has gotten too much sun? It originally was across the room from a south-facing window in our living room, so I moved it across from the west-facing bay windows. But a couple more days passed, and more yellow leaves showed up.

I decided to move the plant to my room, where it is currently, next to a north-facing window that gets bright, indirect light. I've only watered twice since Aug. 31 because my friend told me to try and only water once a week. But I woke up this morning and noticed more yellow leaves, and I'm really scared that I've killed my best friend's plant. My neighbor told me one possible solution would be to get a deeper pot (it's currently about 15" W x 5" H, and the plant has never been repotted) so I just ordered one that's 14"W x 6 1/8" H online, but I don't know for sure if that'll fix the problem.

I've attached another pic of what the plant looks like now. Please please help me figure out how to save it!!!!
