One hallway runner? or Two? or None?

I’m in a debacle here. I have a 1986 ranch. It’s set up has all bedrooms on the same side with one very long hallway.
I like my floors but I want to add some other element. I’ve been back and forth about a runner forever.

Help! I have a vintage and modern vibe mix. So, eclectic. I’m not a big fan of boho style rugs but they do work well in my space. I don’t want anything too busy, maybe a gentle neutral pattern.
What are your suggestions?

    Would two runners look weird?

IMO you need one by the door and that is all And instaed of a mirror a really cool piece of art on that end wall.

Which door? I have 7 doors down the hall. And I have been waiting to find a cool vintage art piece for down there! 😀

I think two would look fine (do a web search to see some nice examples), or one very long one. What are the measurements of the hall?

Hall is slightly over 16 feet!

There is also a white version

Two would look fine, or a very long runner as suggested above.

I love that runner! It is a bit more than I’d like to spend. I left out I have two younger children and two dogs and a cat. 🥺 I have thought initially that two runners would make the hall look choppy? Maybe it’s just me. Would it look okay? I figured one long would make it appear longer.

    Or just more aesthetically pleasing?

You might be able to get away with the 12’ runner, depending on how much of the hallway you want to cover. You’d just have to map it out on your floor and see what length works best. If you got the shorter one it would come down to $223 with the discount. In case that helps!

I think the hall is fine without a runner. However, you might check ruggable.com for some washable options that could be better with kiddos and pets.

this one is jute from rugsusa 12' long, multiple colors, and on sale for $101 (pic doesn't make it look like 12 feet though)

also give you an idea if you had to do two rugs

I have a hallway very similar to yours in my ranch, with a dog and two kids. I ultimately decided against the runner because I’m afraid it won’t stay in place and I’ll have to vacuum the rug versus a quick dust mop on the hardwoods.

You could paint the walls a more lively color, or maybe do an accent color at the end.

Seriously, go take a look at rugsusa. they have a ton of rugs, under $140 (some closer to $60) and I've seen some runners go to 16 feet

Ruggable has washable runners with pets/kids in mind. Lots of colors/styles/patterns!

You don't need any runners at all. Add artwork to the walls instead, so your eye stays up and not down.

I agree with artwork on the walls and no runner. The artwork could be paintings that were done by your children. Or, consider family photos enlarged.

Yep - no runner. Consider a photo ledge.

Thanks for the no runner suggestion. Maybe I’ll play with finding some cool vintage mcm art and reassess. A runner does concern me that my kids and dogs will constantly kick it up.

And thank you all! I’m going to hunt some fun art and go from there!

The needlework art looks fab! I'm so happy to see someone decorating with these kinds of pieces. I have such fond memories of the women in my life creating them, and even made a few things myself over the years. I love to see them hanging on today's walls. Great choices!

Thank you! I love that they’re unique and not box store art. I love most vintage decor.

Agreed, the crewel pieces are much more fun than the mirror was!

    The art looks wonderful!
