I live is zone 10 South Florida..... pictures would help.... do you have any crinkled leaves too..... My first guess would also be chili thrips..... They are fierce here in Florida this time of year. With it so hot they reproduce quickly.

No, half the plant healthy and blooming, top stems have no leaves and the top stems are black like you burned them. If I knew how to post pics I certainly would.
