Front Door Color Challenge

We just bought this beautiful home and I love the door color but I’m not a fan of all the white lines on the door and sidelights. I can make the lines blend in if I paint the door a light color but then the home has no pop. What to do?

Also would you all recommend white washing the porch ceiling?

Thanks all!

Paint the whole trim in the same color then you will still have that pop of color and if you can remove the grids . Since I do not see that wood anywhere else I would paint the ceiling of the porch for sure

I would paint the trim around the windows to match the door. I would leave the window grille alone.

You could paint some or all of trim to match door.

I think I would leave wood detail on porch and maybe bring in a couple of wood/finish planters.

Ok I’m going to prep and paint a test spot on the door trim, as it’s that vinyl-like material, to make sure it sticks.

Would you consider painting the ceiling a much lighter shade of the front door?

I love the wood ceiling. I wouldn't paint it.
agree with painting the trim the same color as door.

I like the color of the door and the porch ceiling. Get paint to match or repaint the same color. Paint the trim between the door and the sidelight the same teal. Paint the frame around the door windows and the mullions teal as well.

Find out if it is vinyl. Get paint formulated for vinyl, if it is.

Maybe try the door paint color on the surrounding trim at 50% so you still get some of the detail.

Paint porch ceiling local Haute Blue. A tone that works with your door. Do as others suggested. Paint out whites on door framing. Lovely house.

    Some examples.

I love the pained ceiling concept. As much as I love wood, like @Patricia said, the wood isn’t anywhere’s else so it sort of sticks out which is why I thought to white wash it. Urge the paint examples are pretty fab @Flo!

As for the front door, I’ll do a test this weekend. Maybe a photoshop mockup first 🤔

Yes, agree with the others to make the trim match the door and a “haint blue” ceiling would be perfect for your porch. I rarely like natural wood painted, but there isn’t other wood on your outside, so it doesn’t add anything. The blue porch ceiling will.

“haint blue”? Is that a special color blend of “hint” and “ain’t” 😂 If so, it sounds perfect!

Haint refers to troublesome spirits in the South. The blue is supposed to keep them out. But there is something comforting about a blue porch ceiling.

Another benefit of blue/green ceiling is it confused hornets and wasps and they won’t build nests on it. They think it is sky.

Yup my grandpa always had his porch ceiling blue and it was soothing looking up their cause it mostly matched the sky

Great minds think alike. I was thinking Haint Blue too. BTW, I love your new house. Congratulations!

Will you do the door the same color?

No Red, I think it would look too washed out. I do still want to paint the white trim on the sidelights the same door color to cut down on the “busyness”
